I have always been too embarrassed to admit publicly that I am a CCS – Celebrity-Cyber-Stalker, but I think my creepy ways have been justified today.

Tip: Try to not get too distracted by Jon Hamm’s hotness. Focus on how hard Elmo is working on his sculpture.

On my way back to the office from processing CARFAC’s bank deposit, I decided to check out the VAG on April 20th and get the low down on the festivities. My sinuses were all plugged up that day so I didn’t get high from any second hand smoke at all.

That’s ok. I wasn’t there for the weed anyway.

I was curious to see if there was any art around. Pot-head art, is still art right?
I didn’t come across much, but I did see this image of Marc Emery, who is currently serving time in a US prison for selling marijuana seeds. It made me realize that art impacts our lives in every way, including politics.

The image of Marc also reminded me of the Hope poster from President Barack Obama’s 2008 election campaign by American Artist and Graphic Designer Shepard Fairey.
These two images are very powerful and have had significant impacts on both political campaigns.

It makes me wonder sometimes why attributing 5% of public art sales back to the artist is such a controversial issue – don’t artist’s deserve it?

For those who are curious, the artist who created the poster of Marc Emery is Gary Wintle.

Andrew David Terris makes a compelling case against Canada Council’s funding practices. No stranger to Canadian dialogue, Central Canada, or in other words Ontario and Quebec, appear to be getting preferential treatment by way of receiving the most funds from the Council. As usual, this leaves the West, Atlantic Canada, an other marginalized communities biting their dust. Read for yourself, and share your thoughts on our facebook page; has Terris succeeded in convincing you?

Sechelt Art Centre Initiative

CARFAC BC Member Jane Ford is a part of the Sechelt Cultural Complex Task Force. Over the past year, they have researched the feasibility of developing a Cultural Centre/Complex in Sechelt and the presentation to the public is on February 2nd in Sechelt. The outline (pdf) illustrates the plan for a new library, museum, archives, concert hall and art gallery; all public facilities to enrich the presentation of arts programs which will engage artists of all disciplines. Four non profit Societies have published the four documents available on the District of Sechelt web site.
Ford reports the mayor has also sent it to Sechelt’s Federal Government representative. For more information, please check out our website for more information. Sounds exciting!
