This month's Feature Artist is member Jamie Smith! Jamie is a mixed media painter based in Vancouver. Her work is inspired by her travels and integrates multiple images that together channel various memories and experiences, opening the door for viewers to re-interpret the ideas and produce their own narratives.

In addition to her art practice, Jamie is the founder of Mount Pleasant's semi-annual art walk, ROVE. This free community event gives participants a chance to experience the thriving art scene around Main Street. Guests pick up a free map at one of the locations and begin to rove through artist studios, boutiques, coffee shops, and galleries along the way, culminating in an art after-party at a designated time and place. Jamie's own studio is located along Main Street, and she created ROVE as a way to better engage her community with the vibrant art scene of the neighbourhood.

Jamie has also recently opened up her painting studio, calling it THRIVE Studio and inviting female artists to attend monthly professional development opportunities she calls THRIVE TALKS. THRIVE Studio brings together women in the arts and gives them a space where they can tell their stories, share their experiences, and offer each other valuable advice. At each session, Jamie hosts a guest speaker from a different arts discipline who shares her story and hopefully inspires others who are working towards a similar goal.

Another component of THRIVE is THRIVE Mastermind, a private group of female artists that meet monthly to discuss their successes and challenges. Together, the group offers support, accountability, and suggestions for best practices. THRIVE Studio is also a place where artists can hold workshops and teach their skills to the community. The studio is set up with a large table for teaching and has a number of supplies available that make facilitating a workshop in the space easy and enjoyable.
