Join CARFAC BC & Burnaby Art Gallery for a workshop on Charitable Donations
Facilitated by CARFAC National Executive Director April Britski and Chartered Professional Accountant Jessica Somers (CPA, CGA)
This presentation will be an opportunity for artists in all stages of their careers to learn about the complexities of donating artwork. April Britski and Jessica Somers will address these key considerations below:
- The ethics of charitable donations and art-based fundraisers
What impact can these events have on an artist’s practice and the broader arts community in the long-term? What does an ethical fundraising campaign look like?
- Tax issues related to the process of in-kind giving, including a hands-on analysis on how to estimate the tax effect of an artwork donation and how to properly report the transaction
- Case studies: following CARFAC’s best practice guidelines, we’ll examine case studies and discuss how requests for artwork could be more fair to artists, with tips on negotiating better terms within contracts (an important skill for an artist to have, in general!)
