Guidelines for Members

I. Subject Line:

Yahoo! Groups, our host, will preface all e-bulletins with the following phrase [carfacbc]. This provides the member with quick knowledge of the source of the email. Please ensure that your virus checker is up-to-date as there is no guarantee that Yahoo! checks the emails for viruses before distributing.

Please add to your message subject line one of the following leading topical words, preferably in capitals:
     SUBMISSIONS
     OPENINGS
     EVENTS
     CULTURAL POLITICS
     STUDIO SPACE
     COPYRIGHT ISSUES
     EQUIPMENT EXCHANGE/SALE
     CRATES
     COURSES
     RESIDENCIES
     GRANTS

Note that other short topics are possible. Please be concise.

If there is specific information from the CARFAC-BC Board, it will be prefaced with CARFAC BOARD INFO.

All messages are reviewed and, if appropriate, are approved for release by the e-bulletin moderator. If inappropriate, the moderator will not approve them for release to the member list.

If a specific message is missing a leading topical word, the e-bulletin moderator will attach a topical word to the messages before they go out to the whole group. The e-bulletin moderator reserves the right to edit these messages for brevity and to edit or exclude a message based on content. So get your point across briefly. It is to your benefit. Very lengthy messages tend to go unread by busy people. Please edit your posting to what is important to you to get distributed.

II. Member Privacy:

Please respect the privacy of other members who post messages to the list. It is very easy to forward someone else's comments to a non-member's email address with a couple of clicks of your mouse. However, DO NOT do this without getting the author's permission. The EXCEPTION is in a case where it is an obvious open call for submissions; you may pass the call on without passing on a CARFAC member‘s personal information.

III. Consider Levels of Technology:

Because people with all sorts of different computers and software will be using the e-bulletin, post your messages in plain text (ASCII text) and (no html code). If you do not, the e-bulletin moderator will return messages to you, which will cause your message not to be distributed to members.

IV. Attachments:

The e-bulletin has been set up with Yahoo Groups, our host, to strip any attachments from incoming emails. Therefore, save yourself some time and do not send them.

V. Message Archive:

Yahoo Groups, our host, has created a searchable archive of all past messages, which is accessible via the website (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/carfacbc) to anyone with a Yahoo ID, password and e-bulletin membership. If you have erased a message from your inbox, you will be able to find it in the archive.

To obtain a Yahoo Groups ID, go to http://www.groups.yahoo.com and follow the directions given under Sign In.
